Lelisa Desisa leads 5 men to "Sub 2:05-Sprint-Finish" in Dubai Marathon this morning



What a historic breathtaking breakthrough it was at the 14th Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon, regarded as one of the fastest marathons in the world, this Friday morning  when 5 male runners displayed stunning performances to finish the 42.195km race under 2:05 under dense morning of fog.


Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia led three other compatriots and a Kenyan to produce a 'sprint-finishing' from the final 400 meters making an Ethiopian clean sweep of the top four positions.
Desisa, 23, making his debut, clocked 2:04:45 to win the title together with a prize money of USD200,000 but his time was 22 seconds shy off the course record of 2:04:23 set by another young countryman of his, Ayele Abshero last year.

Another milestone also laid  when second placed Ethiopian, 19-year old Berhanu Shiferaw clocked  a new Junior Marathon World Record of 2:04:48 shattering the previous best of 2:06:15 Paris 2009 held by compatriot Bazu Worku.





 Pre-race favorite Tirfi Tsegaye made a double clean sweep for Ethiopia when she won the women's title in 2:23:23 while Ehitu Kiros and Amane Gobena came in second and third in 2:23:39 and 2:23:50 respectively.

2:07:32 (WL) (CR) (PB) - Negari of Ethiopia wins Xiamen Marathon in records



The first stop of the world's popular international marathons in the 2013 calendar took off in Xiamen, the scenic coastal town of south eastern China this Saturday morning when Getachew Terfa Negari of Ethiopia, two-time runner up in 2009 and 2010 and making his 5th appearance here this morning, made a brilliant breakthrough by claiming the men's title in a new course record and personal best time of 2:07:32.
By breaking the old course record of 2:07:37 set last year by Peter Kamais of Kenya, who finished 5th in 2:09:53,  Negari won the USD10,000 Special Awards of Achievement in addition to the USD40,000 winner's prize money, the highest in China.

Fatuma Sado Derg, also from Ethiopia, won the women's title in 2:27:35 and USD40,000

The Xiamen International Marathon is an IAAF Gold Label Road Race and its course is regarded as one of the most beautiful courses in the world.
The 11th edition of this race saw a record total number of 73,893 participants from 45 countries competing in various races including 20,549 in full marathon, 19,299 in half marathon and 14,896 in 10km

Xiamen to kick off the 2013 marathon season coming Saturday



The 2013 C&D Xiamen International Marathon, traditionally held on the first Saturday of January, will  lead the start of the world's 2013 marathon season when it takes off  coming Saturday, 5 January at Xiamen, a south eastern coastal city in the Fujian province of China.

It has been an IAAF Gold Label Road Race for the 6th year running and is considered as a leading marathon race in China after Beijing. Its course is regarded as one of the most beautiful courses in the world.

This year's edition, the 11th, will see a record total number of 73,893 participants from 45 countries competing in various races including 20,549 in full marathon, 19,299 in half marathon and 14,896 in 10km.

Xiamen provides the highest prize money among the marathon events in China with USD40,000 each  goes to the winners in the Men and Women Open full marathon categories and a Special Awards of Achievement of USD10,000 for breaking the course record.
There will also be another incentive reward of USD1 million for breaking the world record.
