Sado won the LA Marathon together with an additional US$100,000 Gender Challenge Bonus

The 27th Honda LA Marathon, Los Angeles was held yesterday and it came with an additional Gender Challenge Bonus of US$100,000 whereby the elite female runners were given a 17:31 (17min 31sec) head start over the male counterparts and the first finisher irrespective of gender was the winner of the bonus.

Fatuma Sado,20 of Ethiopia, in her 4th marathon race, became the first runner to cross the finishing line in her PB time of 2:25:39 and she walked away with the USD100,000 bonus besides the UD$25,000 champion prize money and a Honda CRV vehicle valued at about US$30,000.

Simon Njoroge, 31 from Kenya won the men's race in 2:12:12 and also won the USD25,000 prize money and a Honda CRV

It was a surprised victory for Wilson Loyanae Erupe, 24, of Kenya when he won the Seoul International Marathon this morning in a best personal time of 2:05:37, beating the old course record of 2:06:49 and the holder, compatriot Sylvester Teimet who set in 2010.

Another Kenyan
James Kipsang Kwambai, joint 7th fastest all time marathoner in the world (2:04:27 Rotterdam 2009) , came in second with a time of 2:06:03

Tadese Feyse Boru of Ethiopia won the women's category in 2:23:26 while Askale Tafa Magarsa also of Ethiopia finished 2nd 1n 2:25:29

Albina Mayorova of Russia won the Nagoya Women's Marathon, Japan this morning and enhancing her chances of a ticket to the London Olympics.

This event, held on the one-year anniversary of the Tohoku Tsunami disasters with a new course attracted about 15,000 participants making it the largest women-only marathon race in the world.

First 12 Athletes named to inaugural IAAF Hall Of Fame

An initial 12 athletes have been honoured as inaugural members of the newly created IAAF Hall Of Fame as announced by IAAF President Lamine Diack in Istanbul, Turkey today in conjunction with the holding of IAAF World Indoor Championships from 9 to 11 of March.
This announcement is to mark the 100-year anniversary of IAAF on July 17.

Another 12 athletes whose names will be announced through the year will complete the inaugural class. The official induction ceremony will be held at the IAAF Centenary Gala on Nov. 24 in Barcelona.

The criteria for entry into the IAAF Hall Of Fame includes having won at least 2 gold medals in the Olympics or world championships, beating a world record and in retirement for a minimum of 10 years.

The initial 12 outstanding athletes named as members are:

Kenyan Ndungu won the Lake Biwa Mainichi Marathon in his debut

Japan-based Samuel Ndungu, 23, of Kenya won the 67th Lake Biwa Mainichi Marathon, Japan this morning in 2:07:04 in his debut while Ryo Yamamoto completed a 4th placing and was the first to finish among the locals in a personal best of 2:08:44 which may earn him a slot in the Japanese Olympic marathon team.

Favourites Nicholas Manza of Kenya and Bekana Daba of Ethiopia DNF.

Moses and Arusei to lead strong field in Semi Marathon de Paris tomorrow



The 20th edition of Semi Marathon de Paris scheduled to take off tomorrow 4 Mar, will see a strong field led by Moses Mosop, 27 and Peninah Arusei , 33 , both Kenyans.

Moses has a personal best of of 59:20 (Milan 2010) over the half marathon distance and he ran the 2nd fastest ever marathon race in his debut in Boston in April last year where he finished second at 2:03:06 to countryman Geoffrey Mutai (2:03:02).
He set the course record of 2:05:36 at the Chicago Marathon last October and also holds the world records in track in 30,000m at 1:26:47.4 and 25,000m at 1:12:25.4 (en route) at Eugene, Orlando, USA in Jun 2011

Arusei has a PB of 1:07:48 (Lille 2010) and is the women defending champion who won in a course record of 1:08:30 .

Coming Sunday - Lake Biwa Mainichi Marathon - last stop qualification Olympic berth for Japanese men



The 67th edition of Lake Biwa Mainichi Marathon, an IAAF Gold Label Road Race, oldest annual marathon in Japan since 1946 will be held coming Sunday, 4th of March and it will be the last venue for Japanese men to seek the London Olympic qualifications after last week's event at Tokyo when 2 locals set strong benchmarks of 2:07:48 and 2:08:38.
