9.69 - 3rd fastest all time - Blake joins Gay as the 2nd fastest man in history





World champion and London Olympic silver medallist Yohan Blake of Jamaica clocked a remarkable 9.69, 3rd fastest 100m time in  history, at the  Athletissima meet at Lausanne, 11th stop of the IAAF-Samsung Diamond League yesterday joining  Tyson Gay of USA as the 2nd fastest man of all time behind compatriot and training partner Usain Bolt (who ran only in the 200m which he won in a meet record of 19.58)

Uganda's Stephen Kiprotich a surprised new Olympic marathon champion.





Uganda's Stephen Kiprotich was the surprised winner in the Men's marathon, the closing Athletics event at he last day of London 2012 when he won the Gold medal in 2:08:01, the first gold medal for Uganda after 40 years.

Favourites  Abel Kirui and Wilson Kipsang of Kenya finished as silver medallist and bronze medallist  in 2:08:27 and 2:09:37 respectively.

2:23:07 - New Women Marathon Olympic Record set by Ethiopian Tiki Jelana




Tiki Jelana of Ethiopia won the London 2012 Women Marathon gold medal in a new Olympic record time of 2:23:07 in wet conditions in day 8 of the Games and day 3 of Athletics competitions today.

Priscah Jeptoo of Kenya and Russia's Tatyana Petrova Arkhipova were close behind and collected the silver and bronze medals in 2:23:12 and 2:23:29 respectively.

Pre-race favourite world leader and two-time London Marathon champion Mary Keitany of Kenya finished forth in 2:23:56

Another strong challenger, two-time WMM series champion Liliya Shobukhova of Russia in her 3rd Olympic appearance had to concede a DNF after 22km due to an injury

Ethiopian Dibaba vs Kenyan Cheruiyot in 10,000m - 1st Final in Day 1 of Athletics competitions today - London 2012 Day 7




After a few years of injury problem, back-in-form Beijing 2008 double 5,000m and 10,000m Olympic gold medallist Tirunesh Dibaba gets set on track to defend her 10,000m  title and to win the first London 2012 athletic gold medal for Ethiopia today 3 August when the Athletics competitions get underway.
27-year old Dibaba set the Olympic record of 29:54.66 (PB) in Beijing and she ran the fastest time of the year in  WL 30:24.39 in Eugene 2 months ago.
She also holds the 5,000m world record (14:11.15 Oslo 2008)

The other strong contender from  the 22 starters at the women's 10,000m Final line up will be double reigning 5,000m and 10,000m World champion Vivian Cheruiyot, 29, of Kenya (SB 32:24.52 and PB 30:48.98 Daegu 2011) who has not been beaten for almost two years.

She won the prestigious Laureus awards as the best sportswoman of the year in last February.
