Bupa Great North Run 2014 set to register millionth finish milestone



Coming Sunday  7 September :
Bupa Great North Run, an IAAF Gold Label Road Race, and a premier event in the Great Run series.
One of the largest half marathons and the largest established half marathon race in the world, there were 56,000 entrants out of 122,000 applicants last year.
It is the largest running event in the UK before London Marathon.
Point-to-point  course from Newcastle upon Tyne to the  coastal town of South Shields, England. (results of which are not rectified by IAAF)

Sunday's 34th edition will see the Bupa Great North Run becoming the first ever running event in the world to record a historic 1,000,000th finish and to mark and celebrate this millionth finish landmark milestone, there will be a special protocol opening ceremony on the banks of the Tyne tomorrow Thursday hosted by the president of IAAF, Lamine Diack alongside some of the legendary stars including Haile Gebrselassie and Paula Radcliffe.

=> Mo Farah 31 (GBR) - PB 1:00:10 (NR) same event last year, reigning double-double  5000m n 10,000m world n Olympic champion, 2011 5000m world champion
=>  Stephen Kiprotich 25 (UGA) - PB 1:01:15 Granollers (ESP) 2013, reigning world and Olympic marathon champion
Women
=> Tirunesh Dibaba 29 (ETH) - PB 1:06:56 same event last year, 5000m WR holder, 5x world champion, 3x Olympic champion including reigning champions
=> Tiki Gelana 27 (ETH) - PB 1:07:48 same event 2012 - reigning marathon Olympic champion
