Tiki Gelana and Geoffrey Mutai named AIMS/ASICS Athletes of the Year for 2012.



London 2012 Olympic Marathon champion and 5th fastest female marathon runner in the world, Tiki Gelana, 25, was named female AIMS/ASICS World Athlete of the Year 2012 after the Kagawa Marugame Half Marathon 2013 in Japan on 3 February and became the first Ethiopian woman to win this prestigious award.

Likewise  Geoffrey Mutai, 31, of Kenya, who ran the fastest marathon ever in 2:03:02 Boston 18 April 2011 (not ratified by IAAF due to downhill course and point to point measurement) and officially world's 4th fastest marathoner (2:04:15 Berlin 30 September 2012), won the male AIMS/ASICS World Athlete of the Year 2012  award for the second consecutive year, prior to the Ras Al Khaimah Half Marathon (RAK), United Arab Emirates, held today 15 February.
