2:03:42 - Wilson Kipsang just missed the World Record by 4 seconds in Frankfurt Marathon this morning




Defending champion Wilson Kipsang, 29 of Kenya, in his attempt to break the world record of 2:03:38 set by his compatriot Patrick Makau in Berlin 5 weeks ago missed narrowly by 4 seconds when he won in a brilliant time of 2:03:42 at the 30th edition of BMW Frankfurt Marathon this morning and making him the 4th fastest marathon runner in history behind his countrymen Geoffrey Mutai (2:03:02 Boston 2011), Moses Mosop (2:03:06 Boston 2011) , Patrick Makau (2:03:38 WR Berlin 2011).

The Kenyans took the top 10 finishers' spot with Levy Matebo (2:05:16) and Albert Matebor (2:05:25) finished 2nd and 3rd places respectively

Mamitu Daska of Ethiopia won the women's race in 2:21:59 (PB)

Haile Gebrselassie, 38 of Ethiopia was back to winning form when he won the inaugural Bupa Great Birmingham Run Half Marathon in 1:01:29 this morning.

Stanley Biwott, 25 of Kenya won the 65th Chosunilbo Chuncheon International Marathon, the second oldest marathon in South Korea, inaugurated in 1946 after the Seoul International Marathon, this morning in a new course record of 2:07:03 improving the previous best of 2:07:54 set by countryman Benjamin Kolum Kiptoo last year.

Standing ovation to 100-year-old Fauja Singh





Fauja Singh,100, born 1 Apr 1911 in Punjab, then British India.
A British centenarian marathon runner of Indian Sikh origin.
Earned a spot in the Guinness World Book of Records as the oldest person to complete a full marathon when he finished the 42.195km distance in Toronto Waterfront Marathon, Canada on last Sunday in 8:25:17 (official gun time ; net time 8:11:06) at the age of 100.

3 days earlier at the Birchmount Stadium,Toronto, he attempted and set 8 world age group records in one day :
100m in 23.14, 200m in 52.23, 400m in 2:13.48, 800m in 5:32.18, 1500m in 11:27.81, the Mile in 11:53.45, 3000m in 24:52.47 and 5000m in 49:57.39.

He was born in India and moved to UK in the 60's and had a love for running when he was a farmer in Punjab. He took up running seriously only 11 years ago after the death of his wife.

He achieved the feat of finishing the 2003 Toronto Marathon in a remarkable time of 5:40:01 at the age of 92.

The next running destination for this 100-year-old hero will be the 30th BMW Frankfurt Marathon on 30 Oct, just 2 weeks after his Toronto feat, where he will participate in the marathon relay.


Fauja Singh, a vegetarian had said :
"I won't stop running until I die. The next target, God willing, is to be the oldest marathon runner ever."

Amsterdam Marathon held this morning - Tiki Gelana won in new course record for women while Wilson Chebet finished first in men





Tiki Gelana of Ethiopia set a new course record in the women category when she won the 36th TCS Amsterdam Marathon held this morning in 2:22:08 (PB) beating the old record of 2:22:19 set by Gete Wami of Kenya in 2002.

Favourite Wilson Chebet, 26 of Kenya won the men's category in 2:05:53 just 9 seconds shy of the course record of 2:05:44 set by Getu Feleke of Ethiopia last year.

Haile to run half-marathon at the inaugural Great Birmingham Run this month



Former marathon world record holder Haile Gebrselassie, 38 of Ethiopia will make a come back run in half marathon at the inaugural Great Birmingham Run, England on the 23rd of this month, his first race since he DNF at the Berlin Marathon on the 25th of last month.

Haile was the 2001 World Half Marathon champion (1:00:03 Bristol, UK) and has a Personal Best of 58:55 ( ex WR, Phoenix , USA 2006) which makes him the 3rd fastest half marathon runner of all time after the late Sammy Wanjiru (KEN) (58:33 Den Haag 2007) and Zersenay Tadesse of Eritrea (58:23 WR Lisbon 2010)

His previous race in half marathon was at the Vienna City Marathon last April when he won in a course record of 1:00:18.

New course records set at Marathon Eindhoven 9 Oct











Jafred Chirchir Kipchumba of Kenya produced an excellent performance to win the Marathon Eindhoven, Holland in a new course record of 2:05:48, the 10th fastest marathon time in the world this year.

It was a double celebration for Kenya when Georgina Rono also set a new course record of 2:24:33 (PB) in her victory in the women's category.

Moses Mosop won the BOA Chicago Marathon 2011 in a new course record of 2:05:37

As anticipated, Moses Mosop, 26 of Kenya won the 34th Bank of America Chicago Marathon in a new course record of 2:05:37 shattering the 2:05:41 set by his compatriot the late Sammy Wanjiru in 2009

He won USD100,000 for the win, and another USD50,000 for breaking the course record.
